Audi offers the A5 with two engine options. A 201-horsepower turbo-four motivates the A5 Sportback, while the coupe and cabriolet models come standard with a 261-horsepower turbo-four (optional in the Sportback). A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is standard and offers snappy and calm shifts. The two turbo-fours are strong and capable. Acceleration is fairly quick, with ample power for passing and getting up to speed on the highway.

The 2024 Audi A5 has a cabin that whispers luxury instead of shouting it. Its design is stylish, though it may be a bit subdued for some tastes. The materials are first-rate everywhere you look, and the build quality is impeccable.
Choose the Sportback if you want an A5 with five-person seating; coupe and convertible models seat four. In all body styles, front-row passengers enjoy roomy accommodations and seats with well-padded support. The Sportback’s rear seats are comfortable for adults, though the car’s sloping roofline limits headroom. Coupe and convertible models have tighter rear seats, but most adults should be OK on short trips.
The A5 has excellent cargo space for a luxury small car. Its hatchback design provides lots of room, with 21.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 35 cubic feet behind the front row. Cargo room in coupe and convertible models is not as impressive, however. You get 10.9 cubic feet of space in the coupe’s trunk, and you get 9.3 cubes in the convertible.

The Acura Integra holds a top spot in our luxury small car rankings. It costs thousands of dollars less than the A5 while delivering athletic handling, a ton of driver-assistance features and lots of cargo room. However, the Audi has a more luxurious cabin than its Acura rival, with a more fashionable design and nicer materials. You also get more engine options and body styles with the A5. The Acura is available solely as a sedan liftback and offers two powertrains; the A5 offers three body styles and four engine options. Overall, both cars are excellent choices.
Audi A5 vs. BMW 4 Series
Like the A5, the BMW 4 Series offers robust powertrains and gives buyers a choice of three body styles. Its cabin isn’t as stylish as the A5’s, but the BMW offers excellent build quality and first-rate materials. The 4 Series Gran Coupe provides generous cargo room, and all 4 Series models have a user-friendly infotainment system. However, this BMW costs more than the Audi, and its handling isn’t as impressive.

The A5 Sportback 40 TFSI Premium is priced from $45,500, and it sports a 201-horsepower turbo-four engine. Pricing for the 261-horsepower Sportback 45 TFSI Premium begins at $47,700. Both models have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Standard features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.1-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a 10-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, a power trunk lid, 18-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof.
The Premium Sportback’s list of driver-assistance features includes adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, front and rear parking sensors and automatic high-beam headlights.
The Premium coupe starts at $47,700, and the Premium cabriolet is priced from $54,900. They boast a 261-horsepower engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission. Standard tech, comfort and driver-assistance features are identical to what’s found in the Sportback.
The Convenience package ($1,400) is available, and it adds an alarm system, driver’s seat memory settings, proximity keyless entry, satellite radio, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and auto-dimming side mirrors.
Audi A5 Premium Plus
The Sportback 40 TFSI Premium Plus starts at $49,700, with the 45 TFSI Premium Plus starting at $51,800. The Premium Plus coupe also starts at $51,800, and the Premium Plus cabriolet has a starting MSRP of $59,000.
This trim gains wireless device charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a surround-view camera system.
The Sportback has two major option packages. The Warm Weather package ($1,300) adds ventilated front sport seats with four-way power-lumbar adjustments. The Navigation package ($1,500) adds navigation and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
The coupe model is available with the aforementioned Navigation package ($1,500) and interior and exterior cosmetic upgrade packages. Ventilated seats can be added for $800. The cabriolet can be had with the Navigation package ($1,500) and a Warm Weather package ($1,400) that adds ventilated front seats and a neck-level heating system.
Audi A5 Prestige
The A5 Sportback 40 TFSI Prestige starts at $55,000, with 45 TFSI Prestige models beginning at $56,250. The Prestige coupe and cabriolet models start at $55,950 and $64,000, respectively.
Prestige models gain upgraded exterior lighting, a head-up display, navigation and park assist. The cabriolet also gains the contents of the Warm Weather package. For other models, any features not included as standard remain available.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2024 A5 Sportback an overall safety rating of five out of five stars, with five stars in the side crash and rollover tests and four stars in the frontal crash test. NHTSA has not crash tested coupe and cabriolet models at the time of writing.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the A5 mostly good ratings for coupe and sportback models. Convertible models haven’t been fully rated yet by the IIHS.
